A Life Of Cyn

I Said, "Hey, What's Going On?"

Because of my many travels, I am #blessed to have friends in all the corners of the United States. It means I always have couches to crash on and warm, smiling faces to welcome me wherever I end up. It also means I am on the phone a lot--which I love. It is truly the highlight of my day when I get to spend an hour catching up on the hot goss, hashing out beta on our climbing projects (just pull harder, Nikhil), and dreaming of days when the distance between us isn’t so great. I have discovered, however, that my least favorite part of the conversation is when some variation of, “What have you been up to?” gets asked of me. And of course it gets asked. It’s literally 50% of why we’re on the phone in the first place, but I am stumped every time.

Maybe it’s just because it’s hard to call upon that kind of information on the spot, and I do usually come up with something eventually; but in a larger sense, I have been (f)unemployed for over 10 months now (10 months???) and what do I have to show for it (is this what a Midlife Crisis is? Am I in my midlife??)?

While I was living in the van for the first half of this year, I felt like I was doing something. I may not have been gainfully employed, but I was definitely gaining. Everyday was a new advanture with new ground to cover and new boulders to send (or fall off of, as the case may be). #FlashbackFriday

Now that I’m trying to put down some roots, it doesn’t feel like I’m doing as much. I’m establishing a routines in the same place day after day, which is great and all, but the lack of novelty feels a bit... forgettable (hence the sporadic nature of the blog as of late).

But obviously, I’m really cool, and I have a really cool life. Just because I take (semi-)regular showers now doesn’t mean I’m not spending my time well. I’ve been trying to come up with ways to capture my coolness on the blog, and while my thoughts are still evolving, I think it’s going to involve a website-makeover and more frequent postings (like, twice a month, don’t freak out). I feel like I’ve been promising this since before I got to Canada, but this time it’s for real!

Some potential upcoming post topics: a summary of my first climbing season in Canada; homecooking (wherein I overcome my disdain for taking pictures of my food for the sake of my 12 readers); HARDCORE PARKOUR; my dad unsubscribed from my blog so I can finally tell you about all the mushrooms I’ve been eating; etc etc.

In other news, Jamie and I enjoyed a very spooky Halloween, full of vegan pumpkin cheesecake, playground games with our friends (we have friends!), and bouldering in Squamish (which I finally think I’m starting to get the hang of). I also had a meltdown over pizza (like, full on sobbing in the kitchen), so overall I’d say things are pretty swell.

See you soon! XOXO
